DIASPORA - Latin Band - Greater Manchester
Band ProfileDIÁSPORA is an exciting Latin band from Manchester in the north-west of the UK, within easy reach of Yorkshire cities Leeds, Sheffield and York, Derbyshire, Liverpool and the Midlands. The band can travel UK-wide and has a London group ready for engagements in Kent, Sussex and other parts of the South. Their amazing, full 11-piece line-up (2 vocalists, 3 percussionists, 4 horns, piano and bass) fuses an expansive 'big band' sound with the dynamism and spark of a smaller group. DIASPORA combines sensuous vocals, sophisticated horn lines and explosive percussion solos, their aim to unite the rhythms of the Americas. They can also perform as smaller groups if the budget or venue requires this, from a 5-piece upwards. Whilst 'salsa' remains the focus of what they do, DIÁSPORA isn't your regular 'salsa band'... It's a Latin band, in the wider sense; freely mixing 'salsa' idioms with other influences - African, Spanish, Antillean, Caribbean, South and North American - to bring you a fresh, funky and unique Latin music experience. With their critically acclaimed fusion of rhythms from throughout the Americas, DIÁSPORA is one of the most exciting new projects to emerge on the UK Latin scene today. The band have gone down a storm at Manchester Jazz Festival 2010, and at Cultural Collage World Music Festival 2010, and at Matt & Phred's Jazz Club where they currently hold a successful residency.
