Debbie Wilson Jazz Quartet - Jazz Band - West Yorkshire
Band ProfileDescribed as having the "gift of a voice which can both brightly sparkle and sensuously smoulder", Debbie Wilson has performed at major festivals including the famed WIGAN INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL and THE PRESTON JAZZ FESTIVAL, at product launches for reputable names such as BMW and ORANGE COMMUNICATIONS, and at prestigious venues across the UK ranging from THE WINTER GARDENS in Blackpool, HOME in London and THE RAILWAY MUSEUM in York. Further work includes lengthy contracts with leading hotel groups including HILTON, De VERE, THISTLE, RAMADA, PARAMOUNT and MacDONALD. Debbie's love of performance began with a lengthy acting apprenticeship in theatre before turning to a professional singing career in 1993. Since then she has earned widespread respect for her warm, honeyed, lyrical and sensuous vocal skills. Among those who have recognised her exceptional gift are Hollywood legend HOWARD KEEL, Stax Records superstar STEVE CROPPER, jazz diva MARIAN MONTGOMERY, veteran pianist and bandleader (of MICHAEL PARKINSON fame) LAURIE HOLLOWAY and the UK's most versatile popular entertainer, the late ROY CASTLE, who was influential in encouraging Debbie to pursue her tremendous natural singing skills. Debbie's repertoire encompasses and enormous swathe of musical territory, moving easily from popular songs to her first love, jazz, a music which has captivated her since the childhood experience of discovering the brilliance of the piano giant OSCAR PETERSON. She declares an eclectic taste in vocalists, with her firm favourites including ELLA FITZGERALD, BLOSSOM DEARIE, PEGGY LEE and TONY BENNETT and examples of the inspiration of these key figures can be found in her in-person performances. The current resurgence in easy listening "Dinner Jazz" has given Debbie a natural forum for her adaptable talent: offering genuine and captivating sophistication, glamour and elegance she is also able to perform unobtrusively as a discreet musical backdrop, and is a truly versatile asset for any occasion, as many commercial engagements attest. A firm favourite in hotels and restaurants, she has also worked extensively for corporate functions and for a wide range of private celebrations, offering the ideal musical atmosphere for weddings, birthday, anniversary and retirement parties. Debbie possesses a repertoire of well over 200 songs, assuring a fresh performance, and, as she points out "the only repeats are usually by request!" From diners to dancers, Debbie provides an apposite choice of material: lush and melodic ballads are balanced with infectious swing numbers. Well versed in the "Great American Songbook" songs written by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach and associated with greats like NAT KING COLE, JULIE LONDON, FRANK SINATRA, DORIS DAY and others form the core of her extensive repertoire.
